The School Board of the City of Manassas announced Nov. 27 that it will begin the process of hiring a new superintendent by seeking public input on qualifications. The search follows the announcement of the retirement of current Superintendent, Catherine Magouyrk, effective June 30, 2018.

PWC’s new Central Police Station to be named in honor of retired Chief Charlie T. Deane

Prince William Board of County Supervisors Nov. 21 voted to name the new Central District Police Station after retired Police Chief Charlie T. Deane. When he retired in 2012 with 42 years service, Deane was the longest-serving of the original 42-member of the Prince William County Police Department.

High school student will give PWC School Board a “student’s perspective” but no vote on issues

For the first time, Prince William County Public School students will have a representative on the School Board, beginning with the Board’s next meeting on Nov. 29. Hylton High School senior, Kate Arnold, will be a non-voting representative on the Board. Potomac High School’s Magin Sanchez, and Zaki Panjsheeri of Patriot High School will serve as alternates.

Prince William police officers deployed to Puerto Rico to aid with hurricane relief

Prince William County Police Department, in conjunction with the Virginia and Prince William County Departments of Emergency Management, has begun deploying officers to Puerto Rico to assist first responders in that area with the ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Maria which devastated the area in September. Today, Nov. 8, the first rotation of eight officers will fly to the region for a 14-day assignment.

Alert: Natural gas line damaged in Haymarket

Columbia Gas of Virginia crews are working to repair a natural gas line in Haymarket that was damaged by a third party digging at the intersection of Washington and Jefferson streets, according to a notice from Karl Brack at Columbia Gas.
