Global Technical Systems (GTS), a premier provider of advanced engineering solutions for defense, homeland security, and related U.S. Government and international customers, will invest $54.7 million in a new, electro-mechanical energy storage system manufacturing operation in Va. Beach. The project will create 1,110 new jobs with an average annual salary of $74,000.

Representatives from the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles, or DMV, will open "DMV Connects" at several area libraries in December and January to help residents with getting identification cards, drivers' licenses, veterans' ID cards, vehicle titles, registrations and more.

Governor Terry McAuliffe announced Nov. 29 that Virginia was named No.5 in the Forbes.com 2017 Best States for Business ranking. This position represents a jump from No.6 in the 2016 survey and No.7 in 2015, according to a news release.

Schools across the county will be celebrating in the coming months, as 49 have earned the title, “School of Excellence,” two more than took the honor for the 2015-16 school year.
