Dr. Steven M. Constantino, Ed.D, a former principal of Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, has been appointed as Acting Superintendent of Public Instruction. Dr. Constantino most recently served as the Chief Academic Officer/Assistant Superintendent, Division of Instruction for the Virginia Department of Education. He is considered a national expert in the field of family engagement and is the author of four books on the subject.

Governor McAuliffe has announced a series of budget actions and signed a new executive directive to address Virginia’s growing teacher shortage. Budget actions include new investments and budget language targeting teacher recruitment and retention. The directive asks Virginia Board of Education to issue emergency regulations giving colleges and universities the option to offer undergraduate majors in education.
