$9800 planning grant awarded for new meat processing facility in Fauquier County

Fauquier County Department of Agricultural Development and the Fauquier Livestock Exchange Board of Directors have been awarded a planning grant to aid in the development of a new abattoir in Marshall. The $9,800 grant, from the Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development (AFID) Fund Planning Grant Program, will help to establish a management structure and strategic plan for the operation of the new meat-processing facility

Fauquier Schools’ associate superintendent to retire after 40 years in education

Dr. Sandra Mitchell, associate superintendent for instruction for Fauquier County Public Schools, has announced her intent to retire effective Jan. 1, 2017. She will leave FCPS to become a part-time educational leadership instructor and the program administrator for the leadership preparation program for the University of Virginia, Falls Church campus.

Public invited to Sept. 7 community dialogue on middle Schools In Fauquier County

The public is invited to participate in a Community Dialogue on public middle school facilities in Fauquier County with a special focus on Taylor and Warrenton Middle Schools. The Community Dialogue will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Fauquier High School cafeteria in Warrenton.

Northern Virginia Veterans Center to be built at Vint Hill

My number one project for military veterans who live in Northern Virginia moved one step closer to reality June 1 at American Legion Post 176 in Springfield. House Bill (HB) 477, was signed into law by the governor. This puts us on the road to reality for constructing the Northern Virginia Veterans Care Center. The chosen location is Vint Hill.

State Veterinarian lifts quarantine on Fauquier horse training facility

State Veterinarian Dr. Richard Wilkes has lifted the quarantine in effect since Feb. 22 on a thoroughbred training facility in Fauquier County. The quarantine was imposed for Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1).
