The Civil War-era writing--or graffiti--by Union soldiers on the walls of the historic 1825 Liberia House in Manassas is competing for a place on this year’s Virginia’s Top 10 Endangered Artifacts list. Although only a few signatures are fully visible, historians believe that many more exist throughout the house. Uncovering more will require more funds and more painstaking work by expert conservators

A Master Plan for the restoration of Liberia Plantation in the city of Manassas was named the Outstanding Preservation Plan during the American Planning Association's Virginia Chapter Annual Awards, according to Patty Prince, public affairs specialist for the city. Liberia, built in 1825, was occupied by both Confederate and Union forces.
