The first community meeting for the Virginia Railway Express Gainesville-Haymarket Extension (VRE GHX) Study will be on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gainesville Middle School, 8001 Limestone Dr., Gainesville, VA 20155. VRE is evaluating an 11-mile extension of its commuter rail service along the Manassas Line via the Norfolk Southern Railway B-Line, extending from Manassas through Gainesville to Haymarket near the US 15 and Interstate 66 intersection.

Pageland Lane in Gainesville between US 29 and VA 234 reopened to traffic around 1 p.m. Sept. 24, about six hours ahead of estimated reopening.

Pageland Lane (VA 705) between US 29 and VA 234 will be closed, weather permitting, from 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21 through 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 for emergency pipe replacement, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Murder Investigation *ARRESTS – Between September 14th and 15th, detectives from the Homicide Unit made several arrests in connection to the murder of Claude JACKSON III which occurred in the area of Old Linton Hall Rd and Charis Ave in Gainesville on September 12th.

Murder Investigation *UPDATE – Detectives from the Homicide Unit have determined that this incident was not random and had stemmed from a physical altercation just prior to the shooting. All three victims were known to one another. The relationship between the shooting suspect and the victims is currently being investigated.

On September 12th at 1:50AM, officers responded to the area of Old Linton Hall Rd and Charis Ave in Gainesville (20155) for a shots fired call. Officers arrived and located two adult male victims in a nearby parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to nearby hospitals where one victim, identified as a 23 year old man of Gainesville, died as a result of his injuries.
