Virginia Department of Transportation has announced that the Old Carolina/Jefferson Street bridge in Haymarket over I-66 will reopen tomorrow, Dec. 23, nearly five months ahead of schedule.

Weekly Saturday trash and recycling collection services at the Evergreen fire station will cease operation after the collection on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, according to a news release from the Solid Waste Division of Prince William County's Department of Public Works.

The 2015 FIRST® LEGO® LEAGUE Trash Trek Challenge asks students to identify a problem with the way people make or handle trash, and then design a solution to the problem. Fifth graders created a system to put in place at Mountain View School that separates plastic from waste material that can be composted.

The Fire Department has given the all clear to return to the building. The Fire Department ventilated the building to get rid of the smoke and odor. Lunch schedules will now resume.

The first community meeting for the Virginia Railway Express Gainesville-Haymarket Extension (VRE GHX) Study will be on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gainesville Middle School, 8001 Limestone Dr., Gainesville, VA 20155. VRE is evaluating an 11-mile extension of its commuter rail service along the Manassas Line via the Norfolk Southern Railway B-Line, extending from Manassas through Gainesville to Haymarket near the US 15 and Interstate 66 intersection.
