Synthetic smoke was used to create a realistic training environment for firefighters to practice search, rescue, ventilation, and hose line operations in structures located on James Madison Highway in Haymarket July 15-17, a news release said.

The outstanding men and women of the Fire and Rescue Departments of Prince William County and surrounding jurisdictions have been working hard all day with V-DOT in the hot weather to clear I-66 near Haymarket and ensure the nearby Route 15 overpass is safe. We're very grateful that Interstate 66 westbound is now completely open, and 66 Eastbound should resume normal operations by rushhour today. Route 15 is now open in both directions as the bridge did not sustain any serious damage.

Gainesville supervisor Pete Candland said at approximately 9:30 a.m. he has been notified by Virginia Department of Transportation that a vehicle caught fire on Interstate 66, underneath the Route 15 overpass this morning, July 18.

I-66 lanes will be closed at night with detour for work on Rt. 15 overpass.

V-DOT will conduct overnight lane closures on I-66 between US 15 and US 29 in Gainesville, weather permitting, for crews to remove beams from the old Catharpin Road overpass, according to a news release from Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland.
