The Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom has announced Jay Yankey of Nokesville VA will join its board of directors. Yankey was appointed to the board July 1 and will serve a three-year term.
“We are so pleased that Jay and other new directors will be a part of our board to help guide the program,” said Ellen M. Davis, chairman of the foundation’s board. “We are very excited and welcome our new members. Each new member brings great experience and expertise that will help us to continue to grow the Agriculture in the Classroom program in Virginia.”
Yankey is district manager for the Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District where he previously served as education and conservation specialist.
The Prince William County native grew up on his family’s farm in Nokesville. He and his wife, Sonja, own and operate Yankey Farms, a vegetable farm and market.
Yankey holds a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness and environmental science from Ferrum College. He is a past chairman of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers Committee and serves on the Prince William-Fairfax Farm Bureau board of directors.
The Yankeys have two daughters, Ali and Beth.
