Woodbridge attorney Betty Moore Sandler - Lifetime achievement award in family law

Betty M. Sandler, a principal in the Lake Ridge, VA law firm of Nichols Zauzig Sandler PC, has been named the 2015 winner of the Betty A. Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award by the Virginia State Bar’s Family Law Section, according to a news release from the bar association.

The award recognizes and honors an individual who has made a substantial contribution to the practice and administration of family law in Virginia. It will be presented at the Annual Family Law Seminar in April.

The news release went on to say that Sandler has practiced family law since 1986, primarily in Northern Virginia. She has been active in the Prince William County Bar Association, the Arlington Bar Association, and was instrumental to starting the Prince William Family Law Section. She also chaired the Prince William Bar Association Committee on Professionalism.

Sandler has been a board member and vice chair of the Family Law Section of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and a board member and officer of the VSB Family Law Section. She also is past president of the Virginian chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

She was the founding president of the Prince William County Bar Foundation.  Sandler also serves as a substitute judge in the state’s Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts.

She has authored many articles on family law matters for the Virginia State Bar and Virginia Trial Lawyers Association publications and she regularly participates as a panelist and moderator for Continuing Legal Education seminars on domestic relations and ethics.

Sandler is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the University of Kentucky College of Law.
