Wittman on committee to iron out Nat’l Defense Authorization differences

Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1), Chairman of the House Armed Services Readiness Subcommittee, has been named to the congressional conference committee that will resolve differences between the House and Senate versions of the FY2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). VA-1 includes part of Prince William County.

“The men and women in our armed services have always been willing to do more with less,” Wittman said, “but new and existing threats, coupled with an increased combat tempo, demand that we take a long, hard look at the resources we’re providing them. We cannot send our war fighters into battle without adequate training and equipment. As this year’s NDAA process moves forward, I’ll work my absolute hardest to make sure that our defense budget and policies meet our strategic needs.”

“Rob Wittman has been a staunch advocate for our military,” Armed Services Chairman Mac Thornberry (TX-13) said, “and he’s worked hard this year to highlight the readiness gaps that every service branch is facing. He understands how critical it is for us to address those shortfalls, and his leadership on behalf of Virginia and our armed forces will make him an asset as we continue to usher this important piece of legislation over the finish line.”

Congressman Wittman has represented the First District since 2007 and has served as Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee since 2013. The First District is home to Marine Corps Base Quantico, Naval Support Facility Dahlgren, Fort A.P. Hill, U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown, and Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, and also borders Joint Base Langley-Eustis.
