Washington, D.C. man charged with assault and battery on LEO

Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On August 16 at 9:58PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the 2000 block of Horizon Ct in Woodbridge (22191) for an initial call of a drug complaint. The caller reported to police that individuals were smoking marijuana near a building in the above area. Upon arrival, officers made contact with three men standing in the hallway in the area where a strong odor of marijuana was also detected.

During the encounter, officers attempted to detain one of the men, identified as the accused. The man pushed the officer and ran towards the front of the building. After a short foot chase, the accused was taken into custody nearby without further incident. Officers located a handgun that the accused dropped during the chase.

Officers also determined the accused was wanted out of a jurisdiction in Maryland on unrelated charges. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Desean Walter Leroy HARRIS, was arrested.
