Governor Glenn Youngkin today, Oct. 10, issued Executive Directive 8, deploying targeted resources in response to the Emergency Management Assistance Compact Request from the State of Florida to help respond to Milton’s effects.
According to a news release from the Governor’s Office, Virginia’s response will focus on preserving life, preventing destruction of public and private property, and protecting the environment.
The targeted resources include a Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team from the Virginia National Guard and Chesterfield County Fire and Emergency Medical Services and elements of a Virginia National Guard horizontal engineer company, a truck company and general purpose company.
“As Florida begins to recover from Hurricane Milton, while still grappling with the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Helene, we understand the significant challenges that lie ahead,” said Gov. Youngkin. “We are grateful to our first responders and national guard members who are helping our fellow Americans get back on their feet during this difficult time. Our prayers remain with the people of Florida, and this is what it’s all about—Americans helping Americans in times of need.”
