VDOT to post I-95 travel times in the Fredericksburg area

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will post approximate travel times for Interstate 95 in the Fredericksburg area on overhead message signs starting Friday, June 6, giving motorists a preview of traffic conditions on the road ahead.

Travel times will be displayed 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, and weekends from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In the event of an incident or work zone, VDOT may temporarily suspend the travel time messages to display a higher priority message.

VDOT uses real-time traffic data gathered from Inrix and multiple technologies to show the approximate length of time to drive between two points along I-95.

For each travel time message, VDOT will post the distance in miles between the sign and the destination shown on the sign. The message will show the amount of time in minutes it took a motorist to travel between the two points. The message signs will be refreshed every five minutes.

Motorists will see messages posted on eight locations on I-95 in the Fredericksburg area, four northbound and four southbound.
