VDOT to close 395 express lanes Saturday night at Shirlington Circle

Lane shift as part of Shirlington Circle south rotary bridge project

SHIRLINGTON – The northbound-running 395 Express Lanes will have double-lane closures at the Shirlington interchange Saturday night, May 11 to implement a traffic shift, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Weather permitting, two lanes will be closed between 11 p.m. Saturday, May 11 and 9 a.m. Sunday, May 12 at the Shirlington Circle south rotary bridge. At least one lane will remain open at all times.

Once the work is completed Sunday morning, May 12, the 395 Express Lanes will be shifted to the left at the bridge when running northbound and to the right when running southbound until late summer.

Drivers should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes.

The traffic shift is part of the project to rehabilitate the Shirlington Circle south rotary bridge over I-395. The project, which will improve safety for drivers and extend the overall life of the bridge, is scheduled for completion in mid-2025.

Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
