VDOT prepared for severe wind and rain conditions

A potentially significant wind and rain event is forecasted for much of the state today. Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are ready across the commonwealth and will respond to any hazardous traveling conditions resulting from strong winds and heavy rain, which are expected to impact Virginia, a news release said.

According to current weather reports, widespread damaging winds and strong to severe storms are possible. There is also the potential for tornadoes to strike. Motorists should watch out for flooded roads as well as fallen trees and debris which can create hazardous driving conditions.

Travelers should monitor the weather and road conditions before driving. The heavy rain and strong winds could produce dangerous driving conditions. Drivers are advised to delay travel until the weather conditions have ceased.
