Libby Doggett, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Early Learning, U.S. Department of Education, will meet school leaders and visit the preschool classrooms at Featherstone Elementary School in Woodbridge on Thursday, Sept. 15, from 9:30-11 a.m.
The school has a classroom of four-year olds who are on the path to success because of the Virginia Preschool Initiative Plus program, funded by federal and state grants.
The Prince William County public preschool program is one of a number of site visits across the nation by state and federal officials to promote the value of preschool education.
Prince William County Public Schools has 625 students who are enrolled in preschool programs, including Head Start, Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI), and Virginia Preschool Initiative Plus (VPI+).
“Students who were in the program last year are flourishing now in kindergarten,” Kathy Channell, program supervisor, was quoted as saying in a press release.
