Unnamed Dumfries adult charged with 2022murder; suspect was juvenile at time of incident, police say

Murder investigation *ARREST – On May 18, 2023, detectives apprehended a now-18-year-old man in connection to the fatal shooting of a 44-year-old man that occurred in the area of Morgan Ct and Old Triangle Rd in Dumfries (22026) on Nov. 12, 2022, shortly after 5:30AM.

The deceased was located in the driver’s seat of a vehicle after police responded to investigate multiple reports of shots being fired in the area. In December 2022, video surveillance was released in an attempt to identify the suspect involved in the murder. While investigating this incident, detectives identified and linked a suspect, who was a juvenile at the time, to the fatal shooting.  The investigation revealed the suspect sought out the victim after a dispute that occurred at a nearby residence involving a family member.

On May 17, 2023, following the investigation, detectives obtained juvenile petitions for the suspect due to his age at the time of the offenses. The accused was served on the charges when he appeared in court on May 18 regarding an unrelated matter. No other suspects or involved parties are being sought in connection with this case.

Homicide Investigation *REWARD OFFERED | VIDEO RELEASE [Previously Released] – Detectives with the Violent Crimes Bureau are continuing their efforts to identify and locate the suspect or suspects involved in the fatal shooting of a 44-year-old man that occurred in the area of Morgan Ct and Old Triangle Rd in Dumfries (22026) on November 12 shortly after 5:30AM. The deceased was located in the driver’s seat of a vehicle after police responded to the area for multiple reports of shots being fired. Video surveillance captured the armed male suspect wearing no shirt with his face covered walking along the sidewalk. The suspect is then seen firing multiple rounds towards the man’s vehicle as it drove by. The suspect fled on foot, and the vehicle continued moving across the roadway before striking a parked vehicle and coming to rest. Detectives continue to investigate the incident to determine what led up to the shooting. More information will be released when available. The Police Department is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those involved in this death. The investigation continues.

Homicide Investigation *IDENTIFIED [Previously Released] – Detectives have identified the man found shot and killed in a vehicle in the area of Morgan Ct and Old Triangle Rd in Dumfries (22026) on November 12. The man was found by police shortly after 5:30AM in the driver’s seat of a vehicle after receiving multiple calls of shots fired in the area. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives continue to investigate the incident to determine what led up to the shooting. More information will be released when available. The investigation continues.

Homicide Investigation [Previously Released] – On November 12 at 5:35AM, officers responded to the area of Williamstown Rd and Old Triangle Rd in Dumfries (22026) to investigate an initial report of shots fired. Multiple callers reported hearing several gunshots in the area. When officers arrived in the area, they located a vehicle near Morgan Ct that had been struck by gunfire. An adult man was located in the driver’s seat of the vehicle with gunshot injuries. Rescue personnel responded to the location and pronounced the man deceased on scene. A police K-9 also responded and searched the area, no other parties were located. The identity of the man found deceased will be released once confirmed and a next-of-kin has been notified. At this time, detectives are actively investigating the incident to determine what led up to the shooting and are seeking to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident or has information as to what occurred.
