Observer reporters Bonny Fahy and Jan Davis have been honored by the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) for their coverage of education news. Both journalists write for Old Bridge Observer and Bull Run Observer.
Fahy’s’ name has been added to the VSBA statewide Media Honor Roll for the third time in four years. Davis has also been honored multiple times.
The Prince William County School Board honored the journalists and Observer Newspapers publisher Randi Reid on September 2.
The Media Honor Roll calls attention to both writers’ “balanced reporting that provides special insight into the programs” on Prince William County Public Schools.
Criteria for honorees include giving a high-profile position to good news about schools; reporting school news in a manner that is fair, accurate, and balanced; and maintaining a cooperative relationship with School Division personnel.
Chairman At-Large Milton C. Johns described their writing as “diligent in getting the facts and presenting the story in a manner that informs without sensationalizing,” Johns said.
Superintendent of Schools Steven L. Walts commended Randi Reid, publisher of the Bull Run Observer, Manassas Observer, and Old Bridge Observer, on coverage of the schools. “We know that in hundreds and hundreds of classrooms there is something great going on every day, and your publications are capturing those stories.”
