Two killed in early morning fatality at Dumfries and Minnieville Roads

Prince William County Police Department issued the following report of a crash early this morning in which two women were killed.

Crash – Double Fatality – On March 9th at 1:21AM, officers and investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Dumfries Rd and Minnieville Rd in Manassas (20112) to investigate a two-vehicle crash.

The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2012 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Dumfries Rd and proceeded to make a left turn on a red light at the intersection with Minnieville Rd.

In doing so, the vehicle crossed paths in front of a 2003 GMC Envoy, which was traveling northbound on Dumfries Rd causing a T-bone collision. The driver of the Envoy had the solid green light to proceed through the intersection, according to the police report.

Upon impact, the Honda Civic immediately caught fire, police said. Two of the first responding officers used fire extinguishers on the flames and were able to cut the seatbelts and remove the driver and a rear passenger from the vehicle.

The front seat passenger was trapped inside the vehicle and was unable to escape until members of the Department of Fire and Rescue arrived on scene, according to police, and the passenger in the rear of the Civic was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both the driver and front seat passenger of the Civic were flown to an area hospital where the front seat passenger also died of her injuries. The driver of the Civic remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The driver and a front seat passenger of the Envoy were also flown to an area hospital where both have since been treated and released.
