Although the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) suspended road work on highways this weekend, there is still likely to be lots of traffic on the area’s highways and byways.
VDOT is lifting lane closures from noon Friday, May 27, to noon Tuesday, May 31, for the majority of construction and maintenance projects, according to a press release. Permanent construction zones with concrete barriers and orange barrels will remain in place.
However, the Interstate 95/395 high-occupancy vehicle lanes will be closed to regular traffic from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, May 29, for the annual Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally.
To help motorists navigate the roads, VDOT posts information about traffic incidents and highway work zones through 511Virginia, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feeds.
Motorists can view traffic cameras and alerts about construction work zones, congestion or traffic incidents on VDOT’s 24-hour travel information website, http://www.511Virginia.org 511Vi.rginia is also available by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
Subscriptions to RSS feeds is available on http://www.VirginiaDOT.org.
