Today, Oct. 11, is Poet Laureates Day at the Hylton Center
Prince William County Board of Supervisors proclaimed October 11 “Poets Laureate Day” in recognition of In the Company of Laureates, the five-state gathering of award-winning poets at the Hylton Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, Oct. 11.
In the proclamation reading on Oct. 6, Chairman Corey Stewart extended a “warm welcome to the celebrated community of writers who will visit Prince William County” to participate in and attend In the Company of Laureates.
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan also sent a letter of greeting to the gathering, which will be read from the stage at the opening of event. In it, Secretary Duncan expresses his support for “a well-rounded curriculum that includes the arts.”
Virginia teachers earn five recertification points for attending this event.
In the Company of Laureates free event takes place on Sunday, Octob. 11, from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., at the Hylton Center for Performing Arts in Manassas, Virginia.
