On March 26, 2019 at the Freedom Museum, as part of the Quarterly Speaker Series, the Freedom Museum will host Matt Carstensen, a project manager for Aurora Flight Sciences (a Boeing Company) electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) program.
He will present an overview of electric aircraft and its commercial application; discuss aviation project management, particularly how it relates to military aviation; and how his military experience prepared him for this type of career.
The eVTOL, known as the Personal Air Vehicle (PAV), had its first successful, highly publicized flight at the Manassas Regional Airport in January 2019.
Carstensen served four years in the US Navy at Strategic Air Command Wing One where he was a supervisor in the Aviation Electrician work center. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science and international relations from Syracuse University and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is an avid runner, history enthusiast, and SCUBA diver.
The Freedom Museum is located in the Terminal Building at the Manassas Regional Airport, 10600 Harry Parrish Blvd, Manassas, VA 20110. The event is from 7:30 PM to 8:45 PM. Admission is free and light refreshments will be available. For directions and further information, visit http://www.freedommuseum.org .
