Suspicious person call ends in large police response

**ARRESTS**

Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On March 24th at 4:32PM, officers responded to the area of Panther Pride Dr and Harwood Oaks Ct in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a report of a suspicious person. A caller reported to police that an unknown man was seen walking around the apartment complex for several hours.

An officer arrived in the area and located the man, later identified as the accused, sitting near the community pool. As the officer approached the accused, he began to walk away, at one point, walking into the roadway in front of oncoming traffic. The accused continued to jump into the roadway in front of other cars and school buses causing the vehicles to come to an abrupt stop.

The officer attempted to arrest the accused, at which point, he actively resisted leading to a physical altercation with the officer. Communication was lost with the officer and a distress call was issued prompting a large police response.

Additional officers responded to the area quickly and were eventually able to detain the accused. The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The accused was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
