Suspects spit on and tussle with police officers during arrests in Manassas

First Sgt. Jonathan Perok, head of the Prince William County Police Department’s public information office, issued the following report of local crimes and arrests on Thursday, July 23, 2020.

UPDATES
Armed Robbery *ARREST –
On July 21, detectives with the Prince William County Police Department’s Robbery Unit identified the suspect sought in connection to the robbery that was reported to have occurred in the 16500 block of Royal Ct. in Woodbridge on July 13. On July 23, officers located the suspect who was arrested without incident.

Arrested on July 23: Brian Darnell MARSHALL, 19, of 16617 Georgetown Rd in Woodbridge
Charged with robbery and use of a firearm in commission of a felony

Armed Robbery [Previously Released] – On July 13 at 8:00PM, officers responded to the 16500 block of Royal Ct. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a robbery. The investigation revealed that the victim, a 32-year-old man, made arrangements via the “Offer Up” app to buy a game system from an unknown seller in the above area. During the encounter, the alleged seller brandished a firearm after the victim gave the seller his money. The suspect fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. The victim returned to his residence and contacted the police. No injuries were reported. The investigation continues.

INCIDENTS
Residential Burglary –
On July 22, 2020 at 9:20AM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the 6700 block of John Mallard Dr in Manassas (20112) to investigate a burglary to a home under construction. The project manager reported to police that the burglary occurred sometime between 4:00PM on July 15 and 10:00AM on July 16. There were no signs of forced entry into the home. Appliances were reported missing. No reason was given why it took six days for police to be notified.

ARRESTS
Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] –
On July 21, 2020 at 2:30PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to Five Below located at 10854 Sudley Manor Dr in Manassas (20109) to investigate a shoplifting. The manager of the store reported to police that a woman, later identified as the accused, was seen inside the store selecting and concealing merchandise before walking passed past all points of sale and proceeding to a vehicle in the parking lot.

When the manager confronted the accused in the parking lot, she pulled out a stun-type weapon and pointed it towards the manager before fleeing the area in the vehicle. Officers located the accused at a nearby business where she was detained without incident. During the investigation, officers further learned that the accused was wanted on active warrants.

After being taken into custody, the accused attempted to flee on foot. While being detained, the accused spat on an officer. No injuries were reported. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Kayla Lorraine THORNTON, was arrested. Upon a search, the accused was found in possession of suspected controlled substances.

Charged with assault & battery on LEO, petit larceny, assault & battery, and obstruction of justice

Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On July 20 at 1:15PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the 7-Eleven located in the 11100 block of Balls Ford Rd in Manassas (20109) to investigate an initial report of a domestic.

When officers arrived at the location, the investigation revealed that no domestic incident occurred. During the investigation, officers learned that one of the involved parties, identified as the accused, was wanted on active warrants. When officers attempted to detain the accused, he attempted to flee on foot. A struggle ensued and multiple officers were assaulted by the accused before he was taken into custody.

Minor injuries were reported by the officers and the accused. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Kristion Antonio SOTO, was arrested. Upon a search, the accused was in possession of a concealed firearm and a suspected controlled substance.

Charged with 3 counts of assault & battery on LEO, 1 count of possession of a schedule IV narcotic, 1 count of possession of a concealed weapon and 1 count of obstruction of justice
