Assault and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] | Residential Burglaries –On May 29 at 3:09PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to a residence located in the 1900 block of Winslow Ct. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a burglary. The homeowner reported to police that he was inside his residence when he observed an acquaintance, identified as the accused, take rocks, and begin to force entry into his home through the sliding glass door. The homeowner retreated into another room and contacted the police.
The investigation revealed that the accused made entry into the home and took an undisclosed amount of money and property before fleeing. There was no contact between the homeowner and the accused.
Master Police Officer Renee Carr, public information officer, reported that while canvassing, the police officers observed the accused nearby, and when they attempted to detain him, the accused fled on foot. The accused refused to follow officers’ commands and after a short foot pursuit, the officers made contact with the accused who continued to actively resist being taken into custody. During the altercation, the accused pushed the officer and attempted to take his Electronic Restraint Device before the accused struck and bit the officer.
Additional officers arrived at the location, and the accused was taken into custody without further incident.
During the investigation, the police officers were approached by a resident of a home located in the 1700 block of Powder Horn Ter. who stated that the accused had forced entry into his home. The investigation into the second incident revealed that the accused shattered the rear sliding glass door of the residence before pouring gasoline on the floor.
The second incident is being investigated by investigators with the Department of Fire & Rescue, Fire Marshal’s Office. Minor injuries were reported by the officer.
Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Carlo Peter GENOVA, was arrested.
Arrested on seven counts on May 29:
Carlo Peter GENOVA, 32, of no fixed address
Charged with:
• 1 count of burglary with intent to cause arson
• 1 count of burglary with intent to commit larceny
• 1 count of property damage
• 1 count of attempted disarming of a LEO
• 1 count of assault & battery on LEO, and
• 2 counts of obstruction of justice
