Suspect charged in Dumfries homicide; PWC police await extradition from Maryland

**UPDATES**

Murder Investigation *ARREST – On May 3, detectives from the Homicide Unit identified a suspect involved in the shooting death of an adult male which occurred in the 3100 block of Chesapeake Dr in Dumfries earlier that day. The investigation revealed that the victim, identified as Jamal Hakeem Ahmad Joseph BRYANT, made arrangements to meet in the above area.

Once in that area, the victim was approached by the suspect, identified as Derick Dwabena PREMPEH. During the encounter, the victim was shot. Officers arrived and attempted to render aid to the victim who succumbed to his injures.

Following the investigation, detectives obtained warrants for the arrest of PREMPEH who was subsequently located and arrested in Maryland on May 5 by members of the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force. PREMPEH remains in custody in Maryland pending extradition back to Virginia. The investigation continues.

Homicide Investigation [Previously Released] - On May 3 at 1:03AM, officers responded to the 3100 block of Chesapeake Dr in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim will be released once a next of kin is notified. Currently detectives do not believe this is random. The investigation continues and additional information will be released when available. This is Prince William County’s 6th homicide of 2016.*
