Prince William Board of County Supervisors discussed concerns at its Jan. 12 meeting over Dominion Virginia Power’s request to discharge of water from its coal ash ponds at Possum Point. The Board directed County staff to attend the Virginia Water Control Board meeting on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 9:30 a.m. and brief the Board on any relevant information arising from the meeting.
Dominion Virginia Power has applied for an amendment to its discharge permit. The request is currently being considered by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the State Water Control Board.
“We are looking into possible litigation and any other actions we as a Board can take on behalf of the citizens of Prince William County,” Chairman Corey Stewart was quoted as saying in a news release.
The board also directed staff to engage an independent consultant to provide expertise and guidance on this unique issue. Staff is then directed to present the Board with any recommendation for appropriate action that will best protect the safety, health and welfare of Prince William County citizens and the environment.
