Sudley United Methodist Church Women have produced a new cookbook, Gather ‘Round the Table, especially for the Sesquicentennial commemoration of the Battle of First Manassas (Bull Run).
The cookbook contains hundreds of recipes as well as much about the history of the area and Sudley Church, which is located adjacent to the Manassas National Battlefield Park on VA 234. Recipes were donated by church members and church friends.
Besides the recipes are cooking hints, how to care for cast iron cookware and how to “season” it, handy lists of substitutions, equivalents and miscellaneous measures.
If you’ve ever wanted to say grace before a meal or would like different ones to use for different occasions, there are a number from which to choose in the church cookbook.
There are many color photos included in the cookbook along with a fascinating story about aprons.
