Prince William County students will compete in the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Oratorical Contest on Monday, January 18 at C.D. Hylton Memorial Chapel, 14640 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge. The event will begin at 11 a.m. More than 1,500 people are expected to attend, including Prince William School Board members, making the event one of the largest King Day celebrations in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
The following PWCS students are among those who won oratorical contests at their schools and will perform before the audience: Jennine Faruque, Stonewall Middle School; Norman Jones, Stonewall Jackson High School; Zoree Jones, Ronald Reagan Middle School; Sunjum Mehta, Porter Traditional School; Nicholas Smith, Forest Park High School.A fourth middle school participant and a fourth high school participant chosen to receive The Judge’s Choice/Honorable Mention Award will be announced at the ceremony.
The winners of an essay contest for fourth- and fifth-graders are: Pershia’ Woodcox, Henderson Elementary School; Ashley Boateng, River Oaks Elementary School; and Lexi Boateng, River Oaks Elementary School. Honorable mention was given to Deanna Dominguez, Mountain View Elementary School, and Annalisia Worrell, Minnieville Elementary School.
