Passionate students from Forest Park and Hylton High Schools, calling themselves “Spriggs United,” plan a May 23 walk to open a dialogue on mental health and invite others to join them.
Forest Park High School StudentsTwitter is “a-twitter” about the May 23 Suicide Awareness Walk, the brain child of Forest Park senior Hannah Kolkmeyer. She had experienced a personal loss and found out after talking with many of her classmates that they too either struggled themselves or knew of people who had mental health issues. Students are now spreading the word on social media.
Kolkmeyer was joined by classmates at the May 6 School Board meeting to invite School Board members and the Superintendent to join the walk. They also passed out information and talked up the walk at the recent Prince William Community Expo; and formed an alliance with Hylton High School students.
No fee. The walk is Saturday, May 23, rain or shine. Sign-in is at Forest Park High School at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m. Walk to Hylton High School and back to FPHS, a total of six miles. There will be three water stations, Forest Park, Food Lion, and Hylton.
