Some City of Manassas public records are now online

City of Manassas government has created an online public records database at http://www.manassascity.org/publicrecords

, in an effort to make the city government more transparent to residents, according to a city news release.

Some of the records date back as far as 1965 and include annual operating budgets, appropriation records, audit reports, capital improvement programs, comprehensive annual financial reports, meeting minutes, ordinances, and resolutions, a news release said.

Searching the online database is easy. Visitors select which records to view by year or by clicking search after selecting a project. There is also a very comprehensive help feature that will guide visitors to the records they are seeking. Records can be downloaded, viewed online or printed for the convenience of the user. The database is open and free to anyone who visits the site.

“I think this is a great tool for our residents and others who visit our site,” said City Manager William Patrick Pate.  “Having more information available for our residents and visitors helps the City to be more open and transparent, and that is always a good thing.”

Records will continue to be added to the database as they are digitized and indexed.  City Council meeting minutes back to 1963 are currently being digitized and will be added within the coming months.
