SOL retakes now an option for students at all levels

In March of this year the state Board of Education voted to allow elementary and middle school students who fail Standards of Learning (SOL) tests by narrow margins or because of extenuating circumstances this spring to be retested before the end of the year – provided that school divisions first secure parental permission.

Previously, this provision affected high school students only.

The state testing window begins Monday, May 11 in Fauquier.

Parents of elementary and middle school students who are eligible for retakes may be contacted by the school principal or his/her designee to secure permission to retest their child. This contact may occur by mail, email or phone.

If a parent does not give permission for the retake, there will be no impact on the child’s grade and academic record.

Questions should be directed to the child’s school.
