There are over 28 million deaf or hearing impaired Americans who are unable to rely on traditional audible smoke alarms to alert them of fire.
To aid them, there are specially designed smoke alarms– vibrating alarms or visual alarms equipped with flashing strobe lights.
Prince William County Fire & Rescue wants the community to be aware these types of smoke alarm devices are available and to know the importance of having a proper escape plan.
