Many of us have received calls from individuals claiming to be from the Social Security Administration, local authorities, and even the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), who will never legitimately contact anyone by telephone!
Please be aware that a new scam emerging is by a man claiming to be an agent of the U.S. Department of Treasury, asking you to speak with him so that you may “help them help you.”
To hear a recording of the scam itself, please visit https://youtu.be/jFaTqHazMRc.
There is no need to return this person’s call; in fact, it is best that you do not. Instead, hang up the phone, and never give out any personal or financial information over the phone if you did not initiate contact.
If you ever have a concern about your government taxes, benefits, or even your utility bill, contact the organization that deals with that matter directly from a fresh webpage in your internet browser or by calling their legitimate phone number found on their website.
If you suspect a scam, submit a consumer complaint to the Federal Trade Commission by calling 202-326-2222 or visiting ftc.gov/complaint.
