On Friday, Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. at the Manassas Museum, Metz Middle School and Manassas Park Middle School will host a robotics exhibition/competition as a finale to their week-long robotics summer camp. During the exhibition, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., the Manassas Museum will be open free to the public for visitors to experience these robotics teams in action.
During this joint summer camp program, the 18 students strengthened their planning, building, and programming in preparation for the upcoming school year when they will compete with other robotics teams around the county on the VEX Robotics platform. The 2013-2014 competition, Toss Up, is where alliances of two teams compete to score the most points by sending balls into different scoring zones and goals.
These teams will compete in February 2014 in qualifying competitions; the top teams will move on to Roboticon and state finals in March 2014. The ultimate goal for middle school robotics teams is the VEX World Championships in Anaheim, California, in April 2014.
