Ribbon cutting and dedication scheduled for Covington-Harper Elementary Aug. 24
The ceremonial opening of the newest elementary school will be Thursday, August 24 at 6 p.m. Named for two distinguished leaders in education, Betty D. Covington and John H. Harper Jr., Covington-Harper Elementary School is located at 2500 River Heritage Boulevard, Dumfries.
The school is expecting to have a first-year enrollment of about 500 students. Current students within the attendance boundaries will be automatically enrolled. New students, including kindergartners, may enroll beginning Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The new school, which is located in the Potomac Shores community, was named by the School Board at its February 15, 2017 School Board meeting.
