In preparation for the severe weather this weekend, it is a good opportunity to remind the Prince William County agricultural community of the responsibilities of and resources available through Virginia Cooperative Extension Prince William in the event of natural disasters or drought conditions.
The VCE Agriculture Agent, Paige Thacker, is responsible for collecting information regarding local agricultural damage and reporting to Prince William County’s Emergency Services Manager within 24, 36 and 72 hours of an event.
Should damage occur to fencing, barns, crops, animals, etc., she may not be able to get to affected farms. Let her know so she can prepare the necessary reports to notify Prince William County.
By collecting this information, Prince William County can declare a local emergency which would then allow the Governor to respond and potentially provide disaster assistance to local agricultural producers.
