Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) released this statement following the announcement of a second death in the Peninsula Health District due to the COVID-19 outbreak:
“I am deeply saddened to report a second death in the Peninsula Health District from the COVID-19 outbreak. My heart continues to go out to the families of the victims across the globe. Please know I am working with officials at all levels of government to address this ongoing situation. We must all be diligent – it is the responsibility of all Virginians to slow the spread of this virus. This is a very serious health threat and all should take it seriously.
“Today, President Trump and White House Coronavirus Task Force issued new guidance to slow the spread of Coronavirus in the United States, including an instruction to Americans to avoid social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people. I urge all Virginians to heed this guidance so we can slow the spread of COVID-19 in the United States.
“If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough or difficulty breathing, please contact your primary care physician or the VDH using the link here: http://www.vdh.virginia.gov/health-department-locator/ Pleas.e continue to practice social distancing as well as washing your hands regularly and avoiding touching your face.
“I will continuing updating folks as information becomes available, and please know I am working around the clock to ensure the health and safety of my constituents in the First District.”
