Quaking practice: Fauquier County Schools to participate in earthquake drill Oct. 19
Fauquier County Public Schools will participate in an earthquake drill on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at 10:19 a.m. The drill is part of the sixth annual Great SouthEast ShakeOut, a multi-state simultaneous earthquake drill in which participants practice the recommended action to take during an actual earthquake.
Because the three FCPS high schools will be conducting SOL testing at the time of the drill, the high schools will conduct their drills on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reminds participants that the recommended action is known as “Drop, Cover and Hold On” as follows.
• Drop to the ground.
• Take cover by getting under a sturdy desk or table. Cover your head and neck with both arms.
• Hold on to your shelter until the shaking stops.
The drill will provide an opportunity for Fauquier County Public Schools to promote readiness in the event of an actual emergency.
