Prince William County’s Human Rights Commission invites the public to celebrate Universal Human Rights Day with a program and awards breakfast during the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 in the James J. McCoart Administration Building Atrium, 1 County Complex Court, at 9 a.m. The theme of the program is “Team Work Makes the Dream Work.”
Universal Human Rights Day was declared by the General Assembly of the United Nations 65 years ago to recognize the inherent dignity and equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family as the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.
The breakfast program will include recognition of the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation by Commissioner Samuel Korson who will give a brief historical overview of the proclamation. Human Rights Awards will be given to local residents who have made contributions to human and civil rights throughout the year, and a special Hall of Fame recognition will be given to exemplary past recipients of the award.
The Human Rights Commission will celebrate its own 20th anniversary. Visit http://www.pwcgov.org/hmnrghts for information on the Human Rights Commission or call 703-792-4680.
