PWC school budget and capital improvements program unveiling Feb. 6

Steven L. Walts, superintendent of Prince William County Public Schools, will present his proposed fiscal year (FY) budget covering July 1,  2013 through June 30,  2014, and the Capital Improvements Program for 2014-23 to the School Board on Wednesday, Feb. 6. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the School Board meeting room in the Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Road, Manassas.

According to Irene Cromer, supervisor of school community relations, the budget presentation will be broadcast live on PWCS-TV, Comcast Channel 18, Verizon Channel 36, and via web cast at http://www.pwcstv.com The s.uperintendent’s PowerPoint presentation will be posted online following his presentation to the School Board, Cromer said. School finance officials will meet with the news media in the lobby adjacent to the Board meeting room following the budget presentation.

The public may speak on the proposed budget when Superintendent Walts and school finance officials present the proposed budget to the public on Feb.  11 beginning at 7 p.m. in Room 1101 of the Kelly Leadership Center.  To speak at this public meeting sign up at the door prior to 7 p.m.

Speakers will be limited to two minutes each. School Board members will be present to hear public comment. Chairman At-Large Milton C. Johns will preside over the public comment portion of the meeting that will follow the budget presentation. Residents wishing to provide early input on the budget are encouraged to attend this meeting.

The School Board has scheduled three budget work sessions: after the Board’s public meetings at 7 p.m. on Feb.  20 and March 6 and a final markup Wednesday, March 13 at 6 p.m.

The official public hearing is slated for Wednesday, March 20, following which the School Board is scheduled to to take on the Superintendent’s proposed FY 2014 Budget. The School Board will then present its budget to the Prince William Board of County Supervisors at a time and date to be announced in the near future. Here is the budget schedule:
