Sept. 12, 2011 Homicide Investigation
ARREST
Through an extensive investigation in Virginia and New York City, it was learned that the three accused individuals listed below had a part in the death of Kwang Sup Hur reported on Sept. 1. The three accused individuals are related to the victim and the motive for the murder appears to have been insurance fraud in which all would benefit from a life insurance policy payout of $1 million. All three accused were located in the New York/New Jersey area where they were arrested and are currently awaiting extradition. Cause of death has been determined to be strangulation.
During the course of the investigation we needed to interview Jung Min Jun. On Friday September 9th, we received information that he was at Newark International Airport attempting to board a flight to Beijing. He was arrested and the course of the investigation accelerated. Five detectives and a crime scene analyst from Prince William County travelled to Newark and then to New York City to follow up on leads and identified the other two accused individuals.
This case was successful in leading to the arrests of the below individuals because of the outstanding cooperation between the following law enforcement agencies:
• Prince William County Police Department
• Prince William County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office
• Immigration and Customs Enforcement
• New York/New Jersey Port Authority
• New York City Police Department: 107th and 50th precincts and intelligence
• New Jersey State Police
• Federal Bureau of Investigation
• Fairfax County Police Department
• Nassau County Police Department
We would also like to thank all of the citizen witnesses who assisted in this case.
Arrested: Jung Min Jun (male), 58, of 71-08 162nd St. in Fresh Meadows, NY (brother in-law of victim). Ho Young Jun (male), 26, of 71-08 162nd St. in Fresh Meadows, NY (nephew of victim). Jung Ok Jun (female), 56, of 71-08 162nd St. in Fresh Meadows, NY (sister in-law of victim).
All three accused have been charged with accessory to murder. Court date unavailable.
The investigation is ongoing and many details are still unavailable.
Death Investigation (Previously Released)
On Sept. 1 at 11:30 p.m., police responded to the 13900 block of Hedgewood Dr. in Woodbridge for a man found deceased. The investigation revealed that the victim’s wife had found her husband deceased in their apartment. The death appears to be a homicide at this time. The investigation continues. The victim has been identified as Kwang Sup Hur, 75, of Woodbridge.
