PWC Police identify victim in Joplin Road fatality

Fatal Crash Investigation *VICTIM IDENTIFIED – On January 28, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit were able to positively identify the driver of the 2009 Pontiac Vibe who was involved in a fatal single vehicle crash which occurred in the 18100 block of Joplin Rd in Triangle on January 8.

The driver of the 2009 Pontiac Vibe was identified as Tyrone Anthony MAYO, Jr., 31, of Triangle

Fatal Crash Investigation [Previously Released] – On January 8 at 12:00AM, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the 18100 block of Joplin Rd in Triangle (22172) to investigate a single vehicle crash. When officers arrived, the vehicle was found fully engulfed in flames.  The driver was located inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.  The initial investigation revealed that the 2009 Pontiac Vibe, occupied only by the driver, was traveling eastbound on Joplin Rd when it left the roadway.  It is unknown at this time if speed, alcohol, and drugs are factors.  Investigators are awaiting positive identification of the driver. The investigation continues.

**INCIDENTS**

Armed Robbery – On January 28 at 6:24PM, officers responded to the 14100 block of Essex Dr in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a robbery. The victim, a 48 year old man of Gainesville, reported to police that he met two unknown men in the above area to purchase a cell phone. During the encounter, one of the men brandished a handgun. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money from the victim before fleeing the area on foot. No injuries were reported. The investigation continues.

White male, between 20 & 30 years of age, 5’8”, 250lbs with a heavy build
Last seen possibly wearing a green hooded sweatshirt– No further description provided
