PWC Police Beat 9/22/11

Death Investigation
On Sept. 22 at 2:29 a.m., police responded to the area of Jefferson Davis Highway and Gordon Boulevard in Woodbridge for a suspicious person. Caller reported to police that an unknown man, later identified as the victim, jumped out of a third-story hallway window at the Inns of Virginia, at 951 Annapolis Way in Woodbridge, and struck the hood of a vehicle in the parking lot. The man then began to run down Jefferson Davis Highway where he encountered police near the intersection of Jefferson Davis Highway and Occoquan Road. The man attempted to run into traffic several times, at which time police detained him for his safety until fire and rescue workers could arrive to check on his condition. As medical crews arrived at the scene, the man lost consciousness and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The investigation continues. The victim has been identified as Wendell M. Bates, 47 of Lake Ridge.

OTHER INCIDENT REPORTS
Burglary
On Sept. 21 at 9:30 p.m., police responded to the 9700 block of Copeland Dr. in Manassas for a burglary. Homeowner reported to police the burglary occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 9:20 p.m. There were no signs of forced entry into the residence. Entry is believed to have been made through an unlocked rear sliding glass door. A laptop and other items valued around $650 were reported missing. 

Burglary
On Sept. 21 at 1:02 p.m., police responded to the 14500 block of Eastman St. in Woodbridge for a burglary. Homeowner reported to police the burglary occurred between 8 p.m. Sept. 11 and 1 p.m. Sept. 21. Entry appeared to have been made through a rear sliding glass door that had been forced opened. A handgun, computer equipment and jewelry valued around $1,600 were reported missing. 

Burglary
On Sept. 21 at 11 a.m., police responded to the 14700 block of Anderson St. in Woodbridge for a burglary. Homeowner reported to police the burglary occurred between 4:30 p.m. Sept. 20 and 9 a.m. Sept. 21. There were no signs of forced entry. Entry is believed to have been made through an unlocked basement door. A gaming console and related games valued around $400 were reported missing. 

Burglary
On Sept. 19 at 3:53 p.m., police responded to the 4300 block of Wabash Place in Dale City for a burglary. Homeowner reported to police the burglary occurred between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Entry appeared to have been made through a sliding glass door that had been forced opened. Jewelry and electronics valued around $5,000 were reported missing.

Attempted Burglary
On Sept. 21 at 9:22 a.m., police responded to the 2800 block of Emil Court in Woodbridge for a burglary in progress. Homeowner reported to police she heard a loud noise coming from the lower level of the residence. Upon investigating the noise, the homeowner discovered a rear door that had been forced opened. No entry appeared to have been gained and no items were reported missing. Police checked the surrounding areas; no suspicious persons(s) were located.
