Accidental Shooting Investigation *ARREST – On Wednesday, August 8, 2012, after consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, detectives from the Violent Crimes Bureau charged the accused in regard to the accidental shooting which occurred in the 14800 block of Empire St in Woodbridge from July 25, 2012. The investigation revealed that the accused, the victim’s stepfather, had left a loaded handgun in another family member’s unsecured vehicle which was parked in front of the residence. The victim was able to get into the vehicle and found the handgun which accidentally discharged. Arrested: Jasmine Darnell MATTHEWS, 27, of the 14800 block of Empire St in Woodbridge. Charged with cruelty and injuries to children. Court date unavailable, released on a $20,000 unsecured bond.
Accidental Shooting Investigation – On July 25, 2012 at 3:25 p.m., police responded to the 14800 block of Empire St in Woodbridge (22193) for an accidental shooting. A family member called police to report that the victim, a 4-year-old boy of Woodbridge, was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim sustained severe injuries and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. At this time, it appears this is an accidental shooting and that the injury was self-inflicted. The scene was isolated to a vehicle parked on the street in the area above. No other injuries were reported. Investigation continues. Identified: Kyrell Kyyon MCNEILL, 4, of the 14800 block of Empire St in Woodbridge.
INCIDENTS
Residential Burglary – On August 8, 2012 at 10:37 p.m., police responded to the 7500 block of Gales Ct in Manassas (20110) for a burglary in progress. Homeowner reported to police that he was in his residence when he heard a noise which sounded like someone opening the sliding glass door. Upon checking on the noise, he encountered an unknown man at the door. A struggle ensued and the man assaulted the victim. Minor injuries were reported. The man fled the scene prior to police arrival. No items were reported missing. Lookout: Black male, between 18 & 20 years of age, 6’0” / 180lbs, muscular build and bald. Last seen wearing black shorts and no shirt.
Residential Burglaries – On August 8, 2012 at 8:02 p.m., police responded to the 5400 block of Loggerhead Pl in Manassas (20110) for a burglary. Homeowner reported to police that an unknown person(s) had entered the garage and stole a bicycle valued around $150. At 8:47 p.m., another burglary was reported in the 15200 block of Leopard Tortoise Pl in Manassas (20110). In that burglary, the homeowner also reported to police that an unknown person(s) had entered the garage and stole a bicycle valued around $100. In both burglaries, the garage door had been left open. A neighbor on Leopard Tortoise Pl observed two unknown males with bicycles in the area around 3:30 p.m. Lookout: 2 black males, both reported to be between 14 & 18 years of age, 5’09” / 145lbs, medium builds
Attempted Residential Burglary – On August 6, 2012 at 12:04 p.m., police responded to the 12400 block of Goa Pl in Woodbridge (22192) for a burglary. Homeowner reported to police that at around 11 a.m., she heard a loud noise from the rear deck. Upon checking on the noise, an unknown man was seen pushing on the sliding glass door. The man never gained entry into the residence and no items were reported missing. The homeowner was unable to provide police with a description of the man.
