ARRESTS

Felony Child Neglect – On July 6, 2012 at midnight, police responded to the 14100 block of Essex Dr in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a child neglect call. An investigation revealed the living conditions inside the residence of the above area were deplorable. Observations by police found debris, sharp objects, sharp tools, open pill bottles, cigarettes, cigarette lighters and a butane torch on the floor of the residence. Police discovered the victims, a 3-year-old male and a 1-year-old female, resided in the deplorable conditions of residence with the accused, a family member. The victims were not at the residence when police arrived, but returned with the accused shortly after police arrival. Following the investigation, Department of Social Services was contacted and the victims were removed from the residence. The accused was charged and arrested without incident. No injuries were reported. Arrested: Sharon Marie MAYNARD, 33, of the 14100 block of Essex Dr in Woodbridge. Charged with two counts of felony child neglect. Court date unavailable, held on a $3,000 secured bond.

Attempted Armed Robbery / Attempted Malicious Wounding – On July 5, 2012 at 8:50 p.m., police responded to the area of Old Bridge Road and Hedges Run Dr in Woodbridge (22192) for a robbery. The victim, a 45-year-old man of Woodbridge, reported to police that while walking on a foot path in the above area, he was approached from behind by two unknown men, one of which was later identified as the accused. The accused displayed a knife and yelled at the victim. The victim was able to get away by running to his residence. Both male suspects fled the area on foot prior to police arrival. The accused was subsequently located not far from the above area and was arrested without incident. The second suspect was not located. No description was provided to police and no injuries were reported. Arrested: Oscar Rene CORTEZ-CORDOVA, 32, of no fixed address. Charged with robbery, malicious wounding and being intoxicated in public. Court date Aug. 6, 2012, held WITHOUT bond.

INCIDENTS

Armed Robbery – On July 5, 2012 at 9:34 p.m., police responded to the 2400 block of Prince William Pkwy in Woodbridge (22191) for a robbery. The victim, a 43-year-old man of Woodbridge, reported to police that while unloading a truck in the above area, he was approached by an unknown man. The man displayed a handgun and began to search for the victim’s wallet. The man fled the area on foot after finding no money. No injuries were reported. Lookout: Black male, between 20 & 25 years of age, 6’0”, thin build. Last seen wearing a black polo style shirt, black pants and a black & white bandana.

Malicious Wounding – On July 5, 2012 at 8:56 p.m., police responded to the 15700 block of Tassleford Ln in Woodbridge (22191) for a shooting. The victim, a 17-year-old male of Woodbridge, reported to police that he and other known acquaintances were involved in a verbal altercation with a group of unknown suspects which escalated. During the encounter, one of the suspects in the other group displayed a handgun. The victim and the group of known acquaintances ran from the suspects when the handgun was displayed. The suspect fired several shots towards the group and subsequently struck the victim in the lower body. All suspects fled the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported. The incident does not appear to be random. Investigation continues.

Grand Larceny – On July 5, 2012 at 8:59 p.m., police responded to Shaw’s Jewelers in Manassas Mall located at 8300 Sudley Rd in Manassas (20109). Employees reported to police that an unknown man entered the store and requested to see a diamond ring. After the man was handed the diamond ring he fled the store on foot with the ring in his hand. The man was last seen exiting the parking lot area, located by Macy’s, in a vehicle. The ring, valued around $16,700, was reported missing. Lookout: Black male, 40-45 years of age, 6’03” / 230lbs, muscular build with brown eyes and short black hair. Last seen wearing black shirt, black pants, black shoes and a black baseball hat with a black team logo. Vehicle Lookout: White Dodge Magnum, 2012, 4-door.

Attempted Commercial Burglary – On July 5, 2012 at 7:41PM, police responded to Pawn USA located at 13879 Smoketown Rd in Woodbridge (22192) for an attempted burglary. Employees reported to police that between 9:30 p.m. on July 3 and 6:30 a.m. on July 5, an unknown person(s) attempted entry into the business by hitting a cinderblock wall with a sledgehammer. No entry was made into the business and no items were reported missing.
