Prince William Public Library Director Dick Murphy has announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2013 after 27 years in this position. He notified his staff in an email Jan. 25, according to sources.
His departure comes as a building program is about to start. A new library for Montclair and for Gainesville are on the drawing boards.
Murphy was quoted in a press release as saying, “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park, and to work with such wonderful people on the library staff and throughout the County government. The decision to retire comes with mixed emotions, but everyone must make that decision at some point. I am looking forward to this next phase of my life!”
The selection process will begin soon, with the goal of having a new director in place by the time Murphy leaves, according to a press release from the library.
