PW school superintendent to present 2015 budget, capital improvements plan Feb. 5

Prince William County Public Schools Superintendent Steven L. Walts will present his proposed fiscal year (FY) 2015 budget to the School Board on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the School Board meeting room in the Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Road, Manassas.

The FY 2015 budget proposal will cover the period beginning July 1,  2014 through June 30,  2015. The Capital Improvements Program proposal will cover 2015-24.

The budget presentation will be broadcast live on PWCS-TV, Comcast Channel 18, Verizon Channel 36, and via Web cast at http://www.pwcstv.com .

The Superintendent’s PowerPoint presentation will be posted online following his presentation to the School Board. 

The public will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed budget when Superintendent Walts and school finance officials present the proposed budget to the public on Feb. 10 beginning at 7 p.m. in Room 1101 of the Kelly Leadership Center. 

Those who wish to speak at this public meeting need to sign up at the door prior to 7 p.m. Speakers will be limited to two minutes each.

School Board members will be present to hear public comment. Chairman At-Large Milton C. Johns will preside over the public comment portion of the meeting that will follow the budget presentation. Citizens wishing to provide early input on the budget are encouraged to attend this meeting.

School Board budget work sessions will be held at 7 p.m. on February 19 and March 5. A special work session for final markup on the FY 2015 budget is scheduled for Wednesday, March 12 at 6 p.m.

An official public hearing is slated for Wednesday, March 19, following which the School Board is scheduled to take action on the Superintendent’s Proposed FY 2015 Budget.

The School Board will then present its budget to the Prince William Board of County Supervisors at a time and date to be announced.
