PW Health District to begin giving 3rd doses of Covid-19 vaccines on Wednesday, Aug. 18

Prince William Health District (PWHD) and other vaccine providers across Virginia are now offering third doses of Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to those with moderately to severely weakened immune systems (immunocompromised).

The local Health District began offering the 3rd doses after Virginia Department of Health (VDH) adopted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendation Aug. 13 that moderately and severely immunocompromised people receive an additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.

At this time, there is not enough data to recommend a second dose for those who received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Third doses are only for people with moderately or severely weakened immune systems, such as those who have had an organ transplant or have advanced or untreated HIV.
